Retreats

Yoga Harris retreats are an opportunity to immerse yourself in Yoga and in Nature

All our retreats include a full schedule of Yoga practice starting with early morning Hatha Yoga. We offer different retreats for different times of year and each one has a specific focus.

The Yoga practice includes :

  • Movement and posture work
  • Breathing / Pranayama
  • Meditation
  • Mudra
  • Relaxation & Yoga Nidra
  • Mantra / chanting
  • Kirtan

Accommodation

There’s a variety of accommodation available including single and twin / double rooms. These are small retreats with between 5 and 8 people attending; how the rooming works depends on who books.

Meals

All food is vegetarian, healthy and wholesome! Special dietary requirements can be catered for.

Karma Yoga

Karma Yoga is an important part of any Yoga retreat. It involves practical tasks (cooking and cleaning for example) done with awareness and in a spirit of service. We keep the Karma Yoga light and it’s an enjoyable part of the retreat.

The Teachers

Our retreats are led by Hannah Penn and Chris Noon, who have been teaching Yoga as full-time professionals for over 30 years and 25 years respectively. Hannah and Chris are highly trained and respected teachers with the experience to guide you in a wide range of Yoga practices.

Free time

The Isle of Harris is a unique location, wild and stunningly beautiful. You’ll have time to walk, explore and discover what makes it so special.

Optional guided walks are available, as well crafting afternoons led by Hannah.

2027 Retreat dates

8th – 15th May

The start of the summer and we’re surrounded by new lambs, the moors are turning green, the cuckoos have arrived … May is a special month in the Hebrides and you’ll see why!

19th – 26th June

You’ll arrive with the full moon and then summer solstice a few days later. The days are long at this time and it never gets fully dark. The flowers are starting to bloom and our garden is full of orchids. The young otters are out in the bays learning to fish, the seals come in close to peer at you and the evenings stretch out as the light changes. In the fresh water lochs the waterlilies are opening.

Machair summer flowers

17th – 24th July

July is the time of the Machair flowers and we’ll take you to the west of Harris to see them; there’s nothing like it, meadows full of flowers – clover, harebells, orchids, yarrow, vetch, trefoil, ragged robin … as far as you can see!

4th – 11th September

September is a great time of year to visit Harris. The weather is often mild and it’s a quieter time at the end of the season, a good time for reflection. The last of the heather is lighting up the hills and the nights are beginning to draw in. A clear night sky is full of stars, the way it’s always been, and you’ll see the milky way stretched out overhead.

Arrivals & Departures

Arrivals are anytime on the Saturday and departures anytime on the following Saturday.

An evening meal is available on the Saturday you arrive, followed by a short introductory session. The retreat will close on the Friday evening with an optional early morning Hatha Yoga session on the final Saturday.

You’ll find all the travel information you need here :

Yoga practice is at the heart of these retreats… but Yoga is a state of being as much as doing and this is reflected in your stay with us.

The retreat includes a wide Yoga practices. Posture work (Asana) is important but a week long retreat is an opportunity to go deeper, so every day there will be meditation, Yoga Nidra, mantra / chanting, breathing (Pranayama) and other elements of Yoga that you mind not find in a weekly class.

You’ll find the time & space to be in nature, to take a breath, to rest. In the free time we might offer a guided walk, or an afternoon craft session (eg needle felting or sacred geometry drawing), or you might choose to read or draw or roam the coastline.

The system of Yoga we teach is different to something like Ashtanga Yoga or hot yoga. If you’re not sure if our retreats are what you’re looking for contact us and we’ll discuss it with you.

These retreats are designed for people with some experience of Yoga practice but if you are new to Yoga let us know and we can advise you. The Yoga we teach is inclusive and you’ll practice in a way that is right for you but a Yoga retreat is an opportunity to go deeper into our practice, especially the more subtle practices of breathing / Pranayama and meditation, so if you have not done Yoga before the retreat might not be appropriate.

If you have been practicing Yoga for a few months you should be fine but check with us before you book.

Unfortunately we can’t have dogs at Yoga Harris. We are located in a working croft and we’re surrounded by sheep!

We certainly have midges in Harris but they are rarely a problem, in May and June we barely see midges at all. The Western Isles are blessed with a regular supply of wind and that keeps the midges at bay.

Every now and again it’s bad, generally early in the morning and early evening, so if you’re here between July & September you might want to bring a midge hood or repellent.

There is wifi and 4G available at Yoga Harris but we recommend you use this retreat as a ‘digital detox’. Our lives can be ruled by emails, social media, 24 hour news etc and it’s not easy to take a break. A Yoga Harris retreat is an opportunity to step away from the online world for a while and the effects of this can be profound.

We will provide a contact telephone number for your friends & family in case of an emergency so won’t need your phone at all.

Yes. We ask participants to take out holiday insurance for Yoga Harris retreats. It’s not expensive and you shouldn’t need it but Harris is a wild and remote island, ferries can be cancelled at short notice, a storm can whip up out of no-where … and you never know!
Make sure your travel insurance includes the journey to and from Harris.

Reviews

Loved being on Harris with Chris and Hannah for their wonderful May 2026 retreat. Their teaching was gentle and easy to follow, with enough repetition and variety to be therapeutic and fun. Felt my mind, body and soul being nourished by the landscape, yoga, pranayama, creativity and delicious food. It was utterly peaceful, centring and grounding.
Being surrounded by blue, green and the ever changing light in the stillness and purity of the Hebrides was magical. Come with an open mind and heart and immerse yourself in the magical sanctuary of Yoga Harris waves of stillness.
– Heather

I was slightly nervous about my ability as I have limited experience of yoga. Chris and Hannah‘s teaching completely reassured me that it is fine to just do what you are capable of. The yoga actually relieved the pain in my shoulder from a long-standing injury and really helped with my sense of well-being. I really enjoyed the connection between breathing and meditation.
Chris and Hannah were friendly and welcoming, and the food was superb. On day 4 I found myself thinking I could do this for another week at least.

– David

I’ve been on lots of retreats in the past but can honestly say that Harris yoga stood head and shoulders above the others. The care and love Chris and Hannah bought to the week was exceptional. I will always carry a bit of Harris with me.
– Annie

The retreat was everything I expected and much more. I knew the teaching would be top notch as always but you really did make us feel so welcome and nurtured. I loved every single part of it. It was varied, fun and obviously very stilling.
– Kaye

Chris and Hannah are very experienced teachers who are skilled at communicating their knowledge and make you feel comfortable and confident in the practise. They were very warm and welcoming and made us all feel at ease and cared for. Yoga Harris is also in a fantastic location- beautiful and so peaceful.
– Ruth

I am writing to thank you for the retreat, the care and attention you gave in all aspects was truly exceptional. At every point you both gave so much to ensure we were all ok. It was really a remarkable experience and it stays with me now. I retain a feeling of being cared for and the importance of self-care. Harris is such a very special island – beautiful and unspoilt. Your home there which you are so willing to share, reflects the beauty of the island. The yoga practice we all shared was a strong and central foundation to the retreat and delivered with care and gentleness and often fun.
