About Our Yoga

At its best, Yoga is a truly holistic system which benefits every aspect of our lives. It is the combination of movement & posture work with breathing, relaxation and meditation which makes Yoga such an effective system for maintaining health and well-being.

Our aim is to make Yoga accessible to as many people as possible. Yoga is something you do for yourself and our job as teachers is to help you make it a part of your life.

Our classes include:

  • Movement & Posture work : for ease of movement, maintaining strength and flexibility.
  • Breathing for relaxation, health and well-being
  • Pranayama : breathing techniques to raise vitality and bring ‘balance’ in body & mind.
  • Meditation : for clarity, quietening and steadiness of mind.
  • Relaxation : Simple relaxation techniques to use whenever you need them. Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) is a core practice in our classes.

We encourage everyone to practice with ease and steadiness – if you’re struggling it’s not Yoga!

FAQs

There are no specific requirements for fitness or flexibility but if there are any mental or physical health issues that might impact on your Yoga practice let us know in advance.

If you have difficulty getting up and down from the floor our general classes might not be right for you. Chair Yoga will be a better option in this case.

We have mats, blankets, blocks and cushions available at our Yoga Centre so you don’t need to bring anything to the class. If you want to bring your own mat or blanket that’s fine.

Some people bring a bottle of water but it’s not essential.

The main thing is to avoid anything that might restrict your movement (jeans for example). Loose, comfortable clothing will be fine.

It’s much better not to! It’s best not to eat for an hour or two before the class and avoid a big meal for at least 3 hours before Yoga.

Yoga can certainly be useful for back problems but it takes time. If you have an acute back problem it’s generally better to rest and if you’re not sure we recommend speaking to a health care professional.

We will encourage you to be steady and comfortable with whatever movements you’re making in the class and if you take this approach you can practice safely.

A big part of Yoga practice is to notice and release tension in the body, also to move as easily and freely as possible. In classes we make patterns of movement that are free of tension and gradually these become part of the way we move naturally. This approach helps to change the underlying issues that can be the root cause of back and other problems in the body. Yoga is a hugely beneficial system for health and well-being but there’s no rush. Yoga is the practice of a lifetime!

Our teachers are trained to teach a full range of Yoga practices, from Mudra and Mantra to Sun Salutation and downward dog!

There really is something for everyone.
